If she is a professionally trained translator with in depth experience in the subject matter and you have positive references from other clients and have done a sound quality check on her work, then she probably can do the translation. You should then have the document edited and proofread by other professionals with similar qualifications. Translation is a profession. In many countries, there are rigid standards to meet in order to become a certified translator for that particular country. In Canada, for example once a translator or interpreter graduates and is certified, they then are considered professionals, similar to the legal and medical fields. The reality is that the majority of the people who speak two or more languages are far from being translators.

What is the difference between Internationalization, Localization and Globalization?

Do you offer certified or notarized translations?

In the US there is no governing body for certifying translations or translators.

Typically, translation companies will issue a "Certificate of Accuracy" indicating that the translation is correct to the best of the company’s knowledge and professional experience.
